“Historic Island Fortress”
Historic facadesPopular tourist attraction site
Once an isolated island, this 44-acre national landmark is a living museum of Saint Lucia's turbulent past. It served as a vital lookout point and military base for Admiral Rodney during the 18th-century naval battles between the British and French, and earlier as a pirate haven for François le Clerc. Visitors can study preserved military ruins, barracks, and Amerindian artifacts. The best time to visit is during the dry season from December to April. Tourist tip: Hike up to Fort Rodney for unparalleled panoramic views of the island and neighboring Martinique.
